Discovering “New” Authors

Have you come across any great books lately? Books that you just can’t get out of your head?

I just read The Siren by Tiffany Reisz. I follow her on Twitter, and hadn’t read her books, so I asked her where to start. She told me to read The Siren and that my life would never be the same.

It took me about a week to read. If I could have sat in a corner and read all day, I would have devoured it in a day.

I don’t want to go into detail about this erotica book. Honestly, just read it. Anything I say will surely give away something. What I can tell you is that Reisz’s writing is amazing. Her characters were ones that I loved. Even one of the main characters in the book I somewhat despised, but his development was done so nicely that I thoroughly wanted to read more about him.

My favorite book that I have read in the past 12 months was Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. That book was incredibly fast paced and I despised the characters so much that I simply couldn’t get enough of them. The Siren is entering into my top books of all time for the same reason – pacing and character development.

I hope my work can one day reach the level of this author. I follow her on Twitter, and suggest you do as well. More so, I encourage you to pick up The Siren (which is the first in her Original Sinners series).

Outlining: Friend or Enemy?

As I move forward in my work in progress, my characters are leading me. I hit bumps along the road, and at times feel I am at a dead end. I often wonder if I had outlined, would this happen?

For those that don’t know, I am on draft two of my novel. Draft one was my Nanowrimo book. I have almost completely rewritten it in draft two, and believe some major edits will be coming with draft three. I am very excited about this novel. I didn’t outline it in the least. Does thinking about it count?

When I finish this book and start writing my next one, I plan on outlining. I know that many would never go without one. Others would toss it out the window and just let the characters write the story. Everyone works differently and does what works for them.

I am trying to find my groove and what works for me!

Where the hell have I been?

Around!! I have not blogged in a long time. I have been hard at work on my work in progress. I am at 50K word wise. Once I finish, I will definitely have to send to my beta readers. I know it needs some more work. I’ve also been reading book after book …. after book …. after book. I am a reading machine!

If you’re interested in what I’m reading, check me out on good reads. As far as my next book, you’ll have to wait and see 😆
